While minding her son's shop, Mrs Nan Withers was severely beaten by an attacker wielding an iron bar. He was on parole after serving two and a half years for armed robbery.
Her son, Mr Norm Withers, organised a petition calling for compensation for victims and tougher penalties for violent crime. It was signed by 307,832 New Zealanders (approximately 252,000 are needed to force a referendum). However, a substantial number of signatures were disallowed.
signatures are now needed before the 7th of
May. Your help in gathering these is greatly appreciated.
Please read the Volunteer page before printing the petition form.
